We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Engineering team at Greggs as Engineering Manager in Newcastle upon Tyne.
We are looking for the ideal candidate who can develop and manage Engineering resources to ensure our assets best meet the needs of the business, including ensuring legal compliance of our facilities and assets.
You will also facilitate continuous improvement across the Engineering function in the areas of plant & facilities maintenance, hygiene, safety, food safety and people management.

About the role
- This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

- The base location for this role is Balliol Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12
What you'll do
- Manage the Engineering Aspects of Legal Compliance for Site Facilities & Assets, Safety-Health-Environment and Food Safety - Manage site engineering risks effectively and minimise environmental impact of operations.
- Manage the Engineering Team - Including PDR’s, setting SMART objectives, regular 1:1’s, coaching and mentoring, managing underperformance and recruitment
- Plan and direct Engineering delivery to support business and manufacturing Plans - Develop & implement department plans to achieve business objectives, and have overall responsibility for the site Engineering budget and engineering people management
- Deliver Excellence in Managing our Assets - Implement Supply Chain Maintenance Strategy, establish asset performance standards, continuously monitor and improve the performance of assets, ensure assets are capable of producing quality products
- Manage Capital Projects as Required by the Business - Plan, organise and deliver local projects to Group standards in line with Cost-Schedule-Performance requirements and in line with New Equipment Introduction process.
- Manage Effective use of Utilities - Monitor and promote minimal use of utilities and manage supply risks
About you
You will fit right into this role if you:
- Are an outstanding problem solver, capable of identifying and rectifying the root cause of the issue with a permanent solution
- Have experience of leading and coaching Engineering Technicians
- Are IT literate with good level of competence in key Microsoft packages (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Have a track record of leading & improving safety within an Engineering function
- Have a minimum 3 years engineering management experience in a FMCG or similar manufacturing business
- Have a track record of delivering performance improvement and cost reduction
- Have experience of delivering local capital projects
- Have an HNC or higher in an engineering discipline, or appropriate experience at a suitable level

Some UK or international travel may be required to visit suppliers or other sites therefore a full UK driving licence would be required for this role.
