Head of Engineering

We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Engineering to join our team and lead the engineering agenda across our national network of manufacturing and logistics sites—from Cardiff to Glasgow.

Based at our Head Office in Newcastle upon Tyne or one of our new East Midlands sites, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of engineering at Greggs, driving performance, safety, and innovation across multiple locations. In return we can offer:

About the role

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered
  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • This role is based at one of our sites in Newcastle or the Midlands (Derby/Kettering): However there will be a need to travel regularly across the UK to visit all our manufacturing and logistics sites. 

What you'll do

  • Lead the Greggs Supply Chain capital engineering programme, overseeing the planning and execution of capital projects across our manufacturing and logistics sites, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with our business growth and operational needs.
  • Drive the development and delivery of a robust maintenance strategy that improves asset reliability, reduces downtime, and supports sustainability goals across all sites.
  • Ensure programmes are appropriately resourced by working closely with site teams and central functions to make sure capital and maintenance programmes have the right people, skills, and investment to succeed.
  • Ensure our engineering assets are legally compliant, well-maintained, and aligned with Greggs’ wider business objectives, supporting both operational performance and long-term planning.
  • Playing a key role as a member of the Greggs Supply Chain Leadership Team, you’ll report directly to the Supply Chain Director, contributing to strategic decision-making and helping shape the future of our supply operations.

About you

We are looking for highly experienced, talented individuals with drive, who can bring strategic thinking, technical expertise, and a collaborative mindset to this key role. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • A degree in Engineering, preferably with Chartered status 
  • A proven track record, at a senior level, of leading engineering programmes across multiple operational sites 
  • Hands-on experience in delivering major capital investment projects, from concept through to completion 
  • Industry experience within Food, Bakery, or FMCG, with a strong understanding of manufacturing and logistics environments 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across cross-functional teams and all levels of the business
