We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Procurement team at Greggs  as Procurement Apprentice on a 19 month fixed term contract.

The base location for this role would be our Head Office in Newcastle Upon Tyne with some flexibility to work 2/3 days a week away from Head Office.

Reporting to the Procurement Policy and Process Manager, you will be required to provide support in the procurement and supply management of goods and services. Ensuring maximum efficiency of resources and achievement of value for money through a range of skills and techniques which will include ordering, invoice processing and record keeping of the procurement process.

As a valued apprentice with us, you will work alongside our procurement professionals, gaining the necessary knowledge and experience to become a skilled procurement professional yourself.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Day release training is delivered both in the classroom and virtually studying an industry recognised qualification: Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Level 3 Advanced Certificate. 

We would also consider those who already hold a CIPS level 3 certification and begin study at CIPS Level 4 Diploma.

You will also be required to complete an End Point Assessment which consists of different elements

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This opportunity is advertised on a fixed term contract basis due to this being an apprenticeship, the objective of which is to gain a recognised qualification and experience in the workplace. This does not include a guaranteed permanent post within Greggs, however throughout the apprenticeship individuals are eligible to apply for vacancies within their workplace organisation, subject to the usual recruitment processes, with support being provided to ideally secure a position by completion.  The apprenticeship will provide valuable work experience and a qualification that is recognised by all employers.

On completion successful candidates could have the opportunity to continue to a higher-level apprenticeship studying the CIPS Level 4 Diploma working towards achieving full membership and ultimately chartered professional status.  We would also consider those who already hold a CIPS level 3 certification and begin study at CIPS Level 4.

About the role

  • This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) however flexibility in this will be considered
  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • The base location for this role is Greggs House, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8BU

What you'll do

  • Analyse and understand end user requirements and potential supplier capabilities to determine potential suppliers’ ability to meet said requirements.
  • Negotiate with suppliers where necessary to ensure value for money is achieved
  • Obtain quotations for Requisitioners, supporting end users in ensuring specifications are accurate and that selected suppliers can provide appropriate goods and services.
  • Ensure that the quotation process is competitive and in line with Procurement Procedures.
  • Develop expertise in the requirements of common purchases and supplier capabilities to provide expert advice to end users
  • Convert Requisitions into Purchase Orders in an accurate and timely manner whilst ensuring compliance with Purchasing Procedures, VAT rules, and internal authorisation procedures.
  • Advise staff on purchasing procedures including P2P, approved suppliers, alternative suppliers, quotations, and financial limits
  • Dealing effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials and delivery of services
  • Ensuring compliance with the safety, health, environmental and sustainability requirements of materials and services
  • Understand the management and maintenance of procurement policies, processes and systems to ensure that user experience of the Supplier onboarding and P2P process operates effectively
