We have an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Manager - Retail Equipment to join our Procurement team at Greggs House, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Reporting to the Senior Purchasing Manager for Capital Equipment, you’ll line manage and develop a small team while leading purchasing activity for key equipment used across our shop estate.
In this role, you’ll work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to source and manage retail equipment that supports new shop openings, maintenance replacement programmes, trials and wider business projects. You’ll help make sure the right equipment is available at the right quality, cost and lead time.
We’re looking for someone with purchasing experience in a multi-site business, ideally within retail, food-to-go, food manufacturing or a similar operational environment. You’ll be a strong negotiator and confident people manager, with excellent communication, supplier management and stakeholder engagement skills.

About the role
- This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

What you'll do
The successful candidate will need to effectively communicate with both suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring that the appropriate quality and quantity of goods and services are available, when and where required, and to the agreed functional specification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and lead the Retail Equipment Procurement category, supporting business priorities across the shop estate and leading end-to-end source-to-contract activity including sourcing approach, commercial evaluation, negotiation, approvals, contract award and ongoing supplier management
- Lead, manage and develop a team of three, comprising two Buyers and one Purchasing Analyst, providing clear direction, coaching and support to deliver category priorities and wider business objectives
- Take responsibility for sourcing goods and services that support retail equipment requirements across the new shop opening programme of circa 300+ projects per annum, as well as wider business projects, equipment trials and maintenance replacement activity
- Extract and analyse SAP, spend and supplier data to identify opportunities to drive value, manage costs, consolidate supplier spend and support informed decision-making
- Identify cost-saving initiatives and opportunities that contribute to the achievement of Procurement purchasing targets
- Review processes, equipment standards and supplier performance to maintain customer focus, improve ways of working and identify opportunities for best practice and continuous improvement
- Add value across the wider business by identifying and introducing new equipment innovations and cost engineering ideas that improve efficiency, performance and whole-life cost
- Represent Procurement on cross-functional working groups, providing commercial insight and purchasing expertise to support wider business initiatives, improvements and successful delivery
- Support wider Procurement and Capital Equipment projects as required, bringing retail equipment knowledge, supplier insight and commercial challenge to help deliver positive outcomes for the business
About you
You will fit right into this role if you:
- Demonstrate strong people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, coach and develop a high-performing team
- Have experience of negotiating better pricing, tender processes or driving value from supplier interactions
- Have experience of dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously
- Have experience of reporting from SAP, or other ERP or finance systems, and utilising Excel, BI and AI to analyse data
- Are highly numerate and literate with strong analytical skills
- Are a self-starter who can plan and organise their time effectively
- Have a track record of delivering value and continuous improvement
- Are assertive and tenacious and able to demonstrate a capability to manage internal and external contacts with diplomacy and ensure stakeholder engagement
- Are team orientated with a passion for achieving both personal and collaborative objectives
- Have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite, and ideally SAP and Ariba
- Can be flexible with your working hours and have a can-do attitude
