Assistant Quantity Surveyor

A fantastic development opportunity has arisen for a Junior Estimator or Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our GNFR Procurement Team, supporting cost control for shopfitting and capital projects across our large, fast‑moving retail estate.

This role is ideal for someone early in their career - whether you're a recent graduate, trainee, or someone with some practical experience in construction or shopfitting who is looking to develop commercially. You’ll be joining a supportive team where you’ll learn how to review drawings, understand costs and contribute to the delivery of new Greggs shops nationwide.

About the role

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered
  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • The base location for this role is Newcastle Upon Tyne

What you'll do

  • Support the review of contractor cost submissions for shopfits and refits
  • Learn how to validate measurements, specifications and quantities
  • Assist with producing cost estimates for new shop developments
  • Help challenge pricing using evidence and benchmarking
  • Maintain and update cost data, logs and standard schedules
  • Support research into cost drivers and value-for-money opportunities
  • Help resolve day‑to‑day supplier queries effectively
  • Contribute to Responsible Sourcing processes in line with ISO20400
  • Build relationships with internal teams and external partners
  • Provide general commercial and procurement support across capital projects

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Have a keen interest in construction, shopfitting, cost management or procurement
  • Have some experience or exposure to construction drawings, measurements or costings
  • Are studying towards or hold a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Estimating or a related field (or relevant experience)
  • Are highly numerate, analytical and comfortable working with data
  • Are confident communicating with suppliers and colleagues
  • Have strong organisational skills and enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment
  • Are curious, proactive and eager to learn
  • Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Want to develop your career in a supportive team where training is provided
