About the role

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) however flexibility in this will be considered

  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • The base location for this role is Newcastle upon Tyne

What you'll do

The successful candidate will maintain effective procedures and processes to ensure accurate and timely delivery of Payroll to more than 28,000 colleagues that are paid weekly across our Retail and Supply Chain teams. 

The key responsibilities and duties are: 

  • End to End Payroll Processing
  • Providing a high level of customer service
  • Starters, Leavers, Maternity/Adoption/Paternity leave
  • Tax code changes, Student Loans, Court Orders
  • Leave of Absences, Dependency Leave, Bereavement leave, Sickness
  • One-off Payments, Cycle to Work
  • Interim Payments
  • Third Party Payments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Payslip Enquires
  • HMRC Correspondence
  • Taking ownership of specific processes, maintaining documentation 
  • Identifying and implementing process changes
  • Assist with overseeing the resolution of queries from employees relating to Payroll, recognising when to escalate
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, delivering agreed improvement initiatives
  • Provide high standard of customer service, consistency with internal standards and operational compliance
  • Strong skills in planning, prioritising, and organising
  • Experience/technical knowledge in operating within a payroll team 

About you

You will fit right into this role if you can demonstrate:

  • You are a strong team player, able to build good working relationships at all levels

  • SAP Payroll experience desirable/CIPP Technician qualification desirable

  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Experience of, and the ability to multi-task and work with multiple priorities calmly and at pace

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills

  • Multi-tasking and working with multiple priorities at pace, delivering results within tight timescales

  • IT skills including Microsoft 365; SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills

  • You are self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and using own initiative
