About the role

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

What you'll do

 

We are looking for passionate people that love working as a part of a team to join us on our journey.

You will have a proactive, can-do attitude and enjoy contributing towards an adaptive, fun and creative environment. You will be capable of working cross functionally and facilitating and collaborating with multiple stakeholder groups.

You will come from either a Developer or Sysadmin background and have a desire to complement your skills with the aim of becoming a well-rounded Dev + Ops engineer. Working alongside the digital product teams you will help to build and optimise tools, processes and workflows that empower our teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently. You will take a leading role in building and managing the environments in which our applications run, and you will help the product teams to operate and support their applications, offering your experience and expertise working with distributed systems in production.

You will care about delivering and maintaining a resilient, scalable and secure platform that meets the needs of our growing digital products and services. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and sharing your knowledge with others through mob programming, documentation and training materials.

You will be a lifelong learner and enjoy joining us on a journey of continuous improvement. As part of the digital team, you will pursue the goal of becoming high- performing, self-organising product teams, applying adaptive planning techniques to deliver innovative solutions to business problems.

 

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Come from either a Developer or Sysadmin background.
  • Have a working knowledge of DevOps practices and principles, embracing automated pipelines to achieve continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/ CD)
  • Have a good understanding of Infrastructure As Code (IaC) and its importance in the Software Development Lifecycle, and preferably have experience working in Terraform or equivalent tools
  • Have proficiency with version control systems like Git, including understanding of branching/merging strategies and their practical implementation within team workflows
  • Have a good understanding of cybersecurity principles and how to defend systems against abuse
  • Have experience working with cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS/GCP)
  • Understand cost management principles when working with cloud services
  • Have a working knowledge of containerised workloads (Docker)
  • Have scripting experience (Bash/Powershell)
  • Be comfortable working in the command line
  • Have a working knowledge of basic networking
  • Have experience working with distributed systems running at scale
  • Have a commitment to continuous learning and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry best practices

It’s not essential, but we’d love to hear about it if you have the following:

  • Familiarity with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
  • Experience with Linux Snaps
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux at the o/s level
  • Experience working in a modern high-level language (C#/Java/Python/etc)
  • Experience working with logging and monitoring tools to ensure reliability of services within a distributed system
  • Experience as a technical advocate, conveying team decisions, concepts, and ideas to non-technical stakeholders
