About the role

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered
  • We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role
  • The base location for this role is Great Britain. Regular UK travel is required as are regular visits to Head Office in Newcastle

What you'll do

  • Set strategic direction for the driver training function nationally, ensuring we have a forward thinking program to recruit, develop and retain the drivers we need.
  • Define Organisational Structure for Driver Training function, to enable their vision for Driver Training
  • Develop, implement and maintain a standardized system of driver training and associated record keeping nationally, to include SSOW and recorded training for all transport activities and vehicle types
  • Support site operations as SME for Driver Training, and Transport Safety
  • Develop, implement and maintain an MVI reduction strategy
  • Develop, implement and maintain an incident investigation, RCA and future prevention strategy
  • Lead the Delivery Point Assessment function, including national level audit.
  • Lead Training and Safety teams
  • Sets, Maintains, and Audits Driver Training records from national to site level.

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Have a proven track record in leading a Safety and/or Training function in a Heavy Goods Transport environment.

  • Are a leader with a proven track record in people management and people development

  • Have a track record of forming and strengthening trusted relationships with business stakeholders

  • Have excellent written & verbal communication skills and the ability to present ideas and opportunities (including using known presentational tools)

  • Have Project Management experience

  • Can demonstrate excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail

  • Have the proven ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively

  • Have experience of influencing cross functionally 

  • Can demonstrate commerciality

  • Can demonstrate a proven ability to provide excellence in customer service

  • Can multi-task and work with multiple priorities at pace, delivering results within tight timescales

  • Have advanced IT skills including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams

  • Are self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and using own initiative

  • Enjoy being part of a hard-working team, sharing the same end goal, and celebrating results together
