You will play a critical role in ensuring our fleet remains compliant, available, and cost-effective, supporting Greggs' distribution network and future growth plans.
What you'll do
As National Fleet Manager, you will lead the strategic and operational management of Greggs’ fleet, overseeing a direct team of nine colleagues within a wider central function of 50. Responsible for a fleet comprising 400 vehicles, 150 trailers, and 120 items of material handling equipment (MHE), you will ensure the fleet remains fully compliant, operationally efficient, and cost-effective. Working closely with key stakeholders across the business, you will play a critical role in supporting and enabling Greggs’ growing distribution network, ensuring fleet capability, reliability, and service excellence are maintained at all times.
Key responsibilities include:

- Developing and maintaining vehicle and MHE specifications that align with operational requirements, safety standards, and future business needs.
- Working closely with operational teams, Fleet Managers, suppliers, and external partners to deliver service excellence across the network.
- Managing fleet audits, regulatory inspections, compliance investigations, and corrective action plans.
- Overseeing fleet asset utilisation, replacement planning, disposal strategies, and supplier relationships.
- Supporting strategic projects including fleet modernisation, sustainability initiatives, and future transport technologies.
- Driving Greggs' decarbonisation strategy through the evaluation and implementation of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), alternative fuels such as HVO, and electric vehicle charging solutions.
- Contributing to business planning, project delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives that support operational growth and efficiency.
About you
We're looking for an enthusiastic, results-driven leader with a passion for safety, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. You'll be comfortable leading change, supporting a nationwide operation, and identifying opportunities to improve fleet performance and sustainability.
- You'll be a highly motivated fleet professional with the ability to balance operational priorities, regulatory compliance, financial control, and long-term strategic planning.
- You'll be successful in this role if you have:
- Significant experience managing a commercial vehicle fleet within a transport, logistics, distribution, or related environment.
- Strong knowledge of fleet compliance, Operator Licence requirements, and transport legislation.
- Experience of vehicle engineering, maintenance management, and emerging vehicle technologies.
- A proven ability to manage suppliers, contracts, budgets, and operational performance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and fleet management systems.
- A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in National Road Haulage Operations.
- A full UK driving licence.
